Back in the 1950s my parents had a Goblin cylinder vac. I remember going with my mum to buy new hoses whenever they wore out and I remember my Dad sitting at the dining table rewinding the coils on the rotor when one had burned out. Replacing the brushes in the motor was a regular occurrence. They kept that vac going right up into the eighties, through seven house moves, when I persuaded them to get a modern upright. My own upright is now 35 years old!
