They say Homer was among his contemporaries. As for the names of the writers of cuneiform and hieroglyphs, they weren't attributed yet. Whenever the ancients (to us) speak of the Hebrews as "ancient peoples": yes and no. Scholars have a few strong competing theories which Canaanite, et al, tribes they probably derived from originally.
