... as you say, it's clear what it has done in THIS case,
yet it seems somewhat unusual to me, making me wonder if this is a one-off SNAFU or truly systematic and, if so, WHERE ELSE can we see such examples?
It's easy to see what a system produces, more difficult to understand the system.
