I’ve noticed this play out at work a lot for me. I’ll have an idea for something that will “make things better”. The powers that be will then request I outline what metrics will be used to determine if it’s “better” or not. And I immediately shut down.
In this context a big part of it is a feeling of mistrust from leadership — I’d rather they trust that I know what I’m talking about — but also just setting that specific goal for how to know if the work is a “success”… it’s deflating.
