There’s a multiverse world where this man is the IHOP manager in Orlando. He is loved by the early rising ex-military and elderly; he is loved by the late night teens sobering up before they go home; he is loved by his family and his community. On his days off and during the midday lull he works on a golf game. When soggy, sticky tourists come for a familiar bite with tots in tow, he welcomes them, a grandfather they never knew they needed. In his community, he is loved and revered. As his favorite clients die he clocks out for the memorial service and bows his head and prays to a merciful god on behalf of those he’s come to know in small ways. At night, he returns to a wife whose shared love with him burns golden and patient. He is happier.
