This beauty is one of New Zealand's endemic giant 'pill' millipedes (genus Procyliosoma).
Growing up to 5 cm in length, they spend the day curled up under logs and stones to avoid danger from predators and drying out. At night, they emerge to safely feed on decaying leaves on native forest floors.
