I think it's more illuminating to read about its alleged creator, his connections to various elite societies who shaped a lot of what we consider "history" and "science". And it's everywhere. Most 1700-1900 buildings of that sort have similar convoluted histories, were build in very short time frames while almost everyone was constantly at war with each other and most people had horses and shovels. Construction photos mostly show already finished buildings surrounded by wooden scaffolding. The architects are all often very young and built dozens of massive buildings in very short times.

It just doesn't make any sense.
