Technically, you do not for any android phone. I'm using an android phone without logging in to a Google account.
It can have access to all the apps, however, some will not work without extra steps and there may be some that will work with some limits, like notifications not working correctly.
It's... A lot to learn. But, it can be worth it if you value security and privacy.
