#Fediverse platforms, and #mastodon in particular, are simply not equipped with the tools and processes to handle the legal and liability requirements that come with running larger public instances.
The moderation tools are woefully inadequate, and other critical trust and safety tools are completely absent.
This exposes instance operators (in the US at least) to liability, regulation, & enforcement actions.
For example CSAM detection / scanning on the timelines is non-existent.
