Today is Alan Turing’s birthday — he was born June 23, 1912. Turing is an icon of computer science and cryptography. In 1952, Turing was prosecuted for homosexual acts after admitting to a sexual relationship with his lover; he pleaded guilty and accepted a probation that was contingent on him taking hormones as a form of chemical castration. He died in 1954, at the age of 41.
