Welp, it’s finally here. We’re #Firefish now, everybody! And well… I’m glad we’re staying calckey.world. Because “Firefish” is a generic-ass name that means nothing. They say it’s a “celebration” of the community… but I’m not sure how.

#Calckey is a name made of two parts. While the first part never made any sense to me, the second part did: It was a reference to Misskey, the original platform this platform was forked from. It had a purpose.

Firefish sounds like Mozilla wanted to launch a social media site, but somehow lost Firefox to Google.

Also, here’s a tip for aspiring FLOSS developers: If you have a big userbase and you wanna do a rebrand, you should probably consult your userbase. This is not a Silicon Valley/Wadi company we’re talking about here.

Well, I’ll still be on here. There’s no better place on the Fediverse. But I’m not thrilled about this new direction, and especially how it’s being promoted as a “celebration” of the community.
