Hmmm.... is the future of the #CommonweathGames in doubt?
After the Australian state of Victoria pulled out of its commitment to stage the 2026 games, now Alberta in Canada has dropped its bid to stage the 2030 games, again due to the spiralling costs.
Will the UK step in again? If so perhaps the Commonwealth Games will become yet one more post-imperial spectacle staged in the fading metropole of a country that once 'ruled the waves'.... & how long could the UK afford a regular event?
