I got so pissed off with some broken code that I banged on the keyboard inadvertently triggering the screen reader in KDE and it wouldn't shut the fuck up.
It wasn't even shown as being 'on' in the settings, strangely enough.
Eventually I came across the words `killall orca` and despite being the opposite of "Save the Whales", it did the trick.
