I think a lot could be explained by the concept of excess inflation, similar to excess deaths. Everyone has some notion that prices slowly go up but when they go up faster than expected then the gap between where people feel the price level should be and where it is is considered excess inflation. I drew the highlighter line with my thumb on my phone so a little charity is needed for the fit 😅
