Good morning, #nostriches.
I've been pondering some #nostr related things lately.
I've come to a few conclusions that may cause a few "WTFs," and I will share them, without permission, because I can and I have determined that I will. So, here we go:
1. Most nostr devs are idiots. The worst of them are egotistical idiots who have status because they were first, not because they are good devs or even good nostr devs.
2. Nostr is crumbling apart, currently. This is because the above popular devs are so busy suckling on the VC teats that their claims to fame that got them that sweet, sweet money that they can't be bothered to fix their crappily hacked together apps/systems. If they even can. I'm not convinced that most of them are even capable of fixing code they wrote a year ago.
3. I keep hearing that nostr is too hard to on board people into using. Yes. I agree. It's harder now than when I joined a year ago. (See conclusion 2 for the reason why.)
4. This is all good. How can I say that? Don't I want nostr to grow? To be frank, no. Not like it has been. Not like some of the idiot devs and VC turds seem to want it to. I can say this is good because it keeps the riffraff away. I can say that it is good because it's better to have this shake out now instead of when nostr is really needed. (It really is needed more in some parts of the world, but, not until better, easier controls are in place for data consumption and what I would call "data focus," for those that don't have unlimited cell plans.)
5. I like the cozy place this is, for now. Many that are the small cohort of regulars are smart, fun, thinking people that are mostly tolerable or just downright great people to be around. They're us a very high curiosity quotient. I've come to find that I prefer people that are primarily curious. Uncurious people are inevitably shallow, vapid, boring, dim people. Curiosity is the sign that one's mind and soul have not been beaten down by the world. There's still a shine in their eyes. More people like that in my life is a good thing. As such, I do not want and will actively resist attempts to flood the social side of nostr with people who's curiosity is shallow.
6. Other Stuff is the future of nostr and we are just starting to see an infinitessimay small glimpse at what is in store for the future.
7. Social nostr can die off and I'll still be bullish on nostr.
Anyway, there's my diatribe for the week. If you don't like my opinions, good. 😁 If you do like them, don't be afraid to call out stupid BS from devs when you see it. I'm not a dev but I know systems and incentives better than most, and you don't need to be a dev to see that things are going wrong from the bottom up.
Have a great day! 😁
