If you saturate the labor market with cheap engineers, you will find the engineering profession less desirable than working the fryer at McDonalds. The same happened to the construction industry, now we have a glut of overpriced and low quality real estate. This is what Elon and Vivek want most for their companies (and by extension for all tech) because developing new products costs time and money and they are asking for something for free on the backs of the middle class.
