Local papers use it to fill space by making evey Met Office weather warning a news story. Certain national tabloids make pronouncements of frozen doom in the winter, and must scare the hell out of old folks especially. (They of course use the expected wind chill adjusted temperature of the coldest spot in Scotland as the headline temperature as if the whole country will see that.)
