If you're just learning, or buying the gun for someone who is, the Henry H001 is an excellent choice. The lever action is safer than a semiauto for someone who is still learning trigger and muzzle discipline. Great little rifle, it'll shoot any .22 ammo out there - you don't have to worry about it being powerful enough to work a semiauto action. Henry is a superb company that stands behind their products.
Ruger Wrangler is an excellent companion if you're going for cowboy guns.
