Early in the last century, Café Central was quite the gathering place for Vienna’s radical intelligentsia. Sigmund Freud, Arthur Schnitzler, Alfred Polgar, Leon Trotski, Robert Musil, Stefan Zweig, Hugo von Hofmannsthal and many others gathered there to argue, stimulate, inspire, and impress. Today’s habitués seem less intense but there’s still a grandeur to the place and the the Sachertorte and the Kaffee mit Schlag are divine.
