China’s Premier Li Qiang to hold rare summit with US-allied South Korea, Japan
==========
Chinese Premier Li Qiang will hold a rare summit with South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on May 27 in Seoul. The three leaders will adopt a joint statement on six areas including the economy and trade, science and technology, people-to-people exchanges, and health and the aging population. The summit comes after separate bilateral talks between the leaders, where agreements were made on diplomatic and security dialogue, resuming free trade talks, and holding a new round of bilateral high-level economic dialogue. The leaders will also discuss North Korea's nuclear weapons and missile arsenal, with Japan demanding that North Korea cancel a planned rocket launch. The summit aims to revive and reinvigorate strained relations between China, South Korea, and Japan, amid rising distrust and tensions over Taiwan.
