It's part of what is a surprisingly common attitude, seeing someone else's decision as a criticism or even attack on you.

I've had people get angry because I switched my ebooks from Amazon to Kobo because of Bezo's support for Trump and rush to cancel DEI. I've had people get angry when I've asked what vegetarian options are available in a restaurant. I've had people get angry and suddenly sing the virtues of the Surrey heaths and hills that they never visit when I tell them that moving North was the best thing that I've done! It doesn't surprise me that people get angry when you say you are leaving X/Twitter.

I couldn't leave Twitter because I never used it, not even before Elon's take over.
