When I moved to Minneapolis I expected everyone to sound like Marge Gunderson (Fargo) but nah. On occasion I’d hear that accent from native Minnesotans esp. those who grew up in the Iron Range and thereabouts.

It was time to leave when someone accused me of saying “snaw” instead of “snow”. Same when after six years in Boston I started dropping my r’s on occasion.

I’m a So Cal native. Ten years in Atlanta now where there’s so many transplants that hardly anyone has a southern accent.
