I would wish my former partner ‘happy birthday’ and she would do the same on any positive occassion, regardless of how small. Maybe it was our way for making up for the disappointing birthdays we've had to experience, and reminding ourselves on future birthdays that there's someone who cares and loves us even if we don't happen to be there with each other.
