With both Amazon and Kobo, because they have Mac desktop apps, I know that when I yoink them into Calibre's library for backups I can read them in anything that'll read an ePub. I'm pretty sure folks on Windows boxes can do the same, and for Nook books too.\n\nDunno if that's the case for Linux, and I'm sure it's not the case if you're in a device-only (just tablet/phone/ereader) environment. So YMMV, of course.",
