borders are drawn by states. freedom of movement is a basic human right. people can break immigration laws, but that doesn’t make them “illegal” as people. just like someone who jaywalks or downloads a movie isn’t an “illegal person”. language shapes our view of who deserves rights, protection and dignity. labelling people as “illegal” dehumanises them and can justify abuse, detention or exclusion. saying “no one is illegal” is a way to insist that everyone has basic human rights, regardless of where they were born or what papers they hold. it's about putting humanity above bureaucracy.
