I get you because I know the problem. When I was editor at the mainstream newspaper, we had to illustrate stories. There was, on many occasions, suggestion to use pictures with certain weirdness to them when describing places people know little about. I saw it as hurting towards these communities.
However, as a amateur enjoyer of afrofuturism and adjacent topics, I do really like this one myself ;D
