What is BitcoinSafariTz?
BitcoinSafariTz is a movement and platform dedicated to promoting *Bitcoin adoption* across Tanzania. Our mission is to educate people about the transformative power of Bitcoin, its underlying technology, and the future potential it holds for Tanzania's economy and society.
Goals and Achievements in 2024:
1. Educating 400+ University Students and Communities about the Bitcoin Lightning Network
We introduced over 400 university students and various communities in Tanzania to *Bitcoin's Lightning Network*, a crucial innovation that many had never heard of before. We're excited to see this growing interest in the faster, more scalable layer of Bitcoin transactions.
2. Promoting Bitcoin Wallets (Custodial and Non-Custodial) Supporting Lightning and Onchain Transactions
We introduced Tanzanians to a variety of Bitcoin wallets that support both Lightning Network and on-chain transactions. These included popular wallets like:
- Blink Wallet
- Speed Wallet
- Wallet of Satoshi
- Lifpay Wallet
- Phoenix Wallet
- Samourai Wallet
- Muun Wallet
- Aqua Wallet
3. Onboarding 25+ Businesses to Accept Bitcoin Payments
We successfully onboarded over 25 businesses, including hotels, shops, markets, and barbershops, to accept Bitcoin payments. These businesses are now listed on btcmap.org, contributing to the growing Bitcoin ecosystem in Tanzania.
4. Introducing Free Bitcoin Education Apps
Recognizing the rise of scams in the Bitcoin education space, we introduced Tanzanians to reputable Bitcoin education apps where they could access free resources and courses. Apps included:
- Simple Bitcoin App
- Bitcoin Magazine App
- Fountain App
- Yzer App
5. Bitcoin Diploma Courses for Tanzanians
We introduced Tanzanian newcomers to the Bitcoin Diploma Course through TheCore21m and provided opportunities for some women to learn about Bitcoin through BTCDada.com. These courses equip individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to understand Bitcoin’s role in society.
6. Tanzanians Attended the Africa Bitcoin Conference
Four Bitcoiners from Tanzania had the privilege of attending one of the biggest Bitcoin conferences in Africa. This was a fantastic opportunity to network, learn, and engage with some of the most impactful Bitcoin projects across the continent.
7. Bitcoin Adoption in the Tourism Sector
In the tourism sector, we’re thrilled to announce that 5 tour companies in Tanzania now accept Bitcoin payments. These include:

- Tanzasafari Group Tour
- Roving Safari Tour
- Bitcoin Beach Zanzibar Hotel in Zanzibar
