The fact that
Alby (npub1get…0nfm) is discontinuing its basic version at the beginning of January is a big loss for nostr and for all options for using nsec as a login. I have used and supported Alby from minute 1 because it is a great application, but the fact that the guys are only opening their doors for a fee will lead to a loss of users in the long term for the whole scene and not the other way around, even if you can host it yourself. I understand that they also have to earn money but not everyone has the know-how or the money (at these prices) to run a node themselves (especially newbees) and paying 10k or 20k sats per month for an Alby node is just too much, especially as a private person. For companies it's OK because you also benefit from the other Lightning features and can use them profitably. For private individuals, however, this cost-benefit analysis is not clear to me and I have the impression that Alby is degenerating into a sats milking machine. What a shame. Think about it! OI*NK
