both cabron and hijo de puta (and its common variations, hijo puta, hijoeputa, hideputa, etc) are commonly used jokingly. if you call a stranger either of those, i mean, it's not going to be taken well, but it's not really that mortal i'd say

the thing about cabron meaning "cuck", ehhhhhhhhh, it's kind of arcaic? you'd call them cornudo or the like, but, if i go out and call someone a cabrón it more comes across as "asshole"
