About 10 years ago, I read the first eleven books. (There were only eleven books.) I wasn’t so enamoured this time. The characters were intriguing but the social commentary felt naive and underwhelming, and the story dragged on for books. Yes, books. Of books 6 through 10, only book 9 had any story to speak of. The rest was pretty much entirely fluff. Sure, some character-building, but hardly an epic tale.
