And Mastodon is clearly designed to at least *try* to deal with some of those bad incentives and sketchy affordances, and that's ultimately why I think it remains interesting despite the weirdnesses and difficulties.
Obviously I think there are better and more intuitive ways to deal with some of the problems and I'm going to keep poking at those, but I think it's useful to start by assuming that design actually does matter
