I am impressed by the system of biological stations in North-Rhine Westphalia (NRW) in Germany. It’s a publicly funded system of associations that combines education, conservation and biodiversity monitoring. Some biological stations also integrate nature conservation and diversified land use (cattle and sheep grazing) and are also farming operations.
