We spend a good portion of our lives trying to make sense of the world we were born into, even after we grow up and that world no longer really exists. For me it's Brent Mydland's weird tinkly keyboard part in Touch of Grey. To me it sounds like beards and ponytails and Dwight Schrute glasses and pocket Ts tucked into jeans and chipped white formica and spilled soy sauce soaked up with napkins and dust floating in sunbeams and half-built computer towers with their covers off and milk crates as shelving and a smell I won't be able to identify as marijuana for at least another 8 years, and something else—the ineffable beating heart of a moment that held me and nurtured me when I was just a lumpy misshapen proto-self, and yet remains forever beyond the tips of my grasping fingers.
