This probably my favourite muscle. It is called Quadratus Plantae. (Name = Square in shape and involved in Planting le foot).



It is cool and weird because it inserts into the tendon of another muscle—Flexor Digitorum Longus.

This changes Flexor Digitorum Longus's angle of pull so that its action flexes your toes in-line with your foot.

You can see which direction Flexor Digitorum Longus would rather pull by following its tendon as it wraps around the medial aspect of the ankle.
