There's a lot of weird "he also did" things you find when you research programming language creators.
Like how one of the guys who invented BASIC was the chair of the commission that investigated the Three Mile Island nuclear accident, or that two of the guys who developed Go also invented UTF-8.
(mind you, one of those guys is Ken Fucking Thompson, who has a rather long resume which includes things like "Unix" and "C" and "grep")
