Rights are violated all the time, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have an inherent right to something like life. You do have a right to life, and if someone kills you, they have immorally violated that right. But you certainly still had the right to life, even though someone violated it.

The social rules we follow were constructed over time to eliminate those immoral acts that violate inherent rights. They’ve since expanded to grant us other “legal” rights, that most agree are important to protect in a society.

I think it’s important to distinguish between inherent rights and legal rights. Legal rights are social constructs. Inherent rights have always existed.
