No, Russia's war in Ukraine will not necessarily drag on forever. What is more likely is that Russian forces will get pushed back to the Ukrainian east, and with a depleted arsenal, tired troops, and not very much cash left, Russia will at worst be able to keep some border scuffles going on for a while. I think this year ought to put paid to Russia's hopes of breaking the government in Kyiv.
