I was in Ireland at the time and I remember trying to make a phone call across the pond to a friend in Maine right after midnight on that date, and to my surprise the answer I heard was "911, how can I help you?"
I was calling the right number for sure, but apparently the cellular call centre went haywire at midnight.
I tried to quickly explain what happened but I guess the dispatcher still thought I was just some dumb kid making a prank call.
