I hate doctors, I hate them all.
I’m on a medication that has been on the market for 30 years now. I found a warning online about how it can cause breathing issues. This warning was issued just a few years ago. It’s insane to me that doctors will tell you to your face that “it must be anxiety, you should go to therapy” when you have never had anxiety cause any sort of breathing issue in your life.
People who have any sort of mental health issue aren’t listened to by doctors. Ok, my psychiatrist listens to me as he sees this stuff all the time. (He told me to never take a certain medication that is known to cause mood disturbances despite the fact that any other specialty of doctor will tell you that reaction is “impossible”.
Again, THIRTY YEARS. You damn well better believe that this side effect was seen in year 1 back in 1993 by SOMEONE. How many of us have been ignored? My guess is that over a 30 year timespan, and given how much this drug is prescribed, probably hundreds of thousands of times.
Point being, don’t ever let a doctor tell you that a side effect is in your head, and that it’s impossible to be experiencing what you are experiencing.
If you need proof that some side effects aren’t recognized by the medical establishment for many years, just question your doctor about Gapabentin and how it wasn’t recognized to cause breathing issues by the FDA (in the USA) until it was on the market for 27 years.
Maybe this will help someone, I don’t know. But yeah, there are many side effects that aren’t seen in trials. This isn’t an uncommon phenomenon, not by a long shot.
