Most publishers live in the past - where print copies were their main business. They refuse to understand the mechanics of the ebook market - and price ebooks high to support sales of print.
I used to read Kris Rusch's Business Musings a lot (right now I have a hard time focusing), where she explains that kind of thought pattern really well.
But yeah... the biggest problems of indies is visibility...
