So... it's raining here in #NYC

Bad news: when it rains heavily like this, my basement tries to flood itself

Good news: we have a built-in "french" drain specifically for this, and a sump pump to drain it.

Bad news: today it has been raining very heavily, so the sump pump can't keep up.

Good news: we have a backup sump pump that drains to a different location.

Bad news: today it has been raining VERY VERY heavily, faster than both sump pumps can handle.

Good news: we have 200 gallons of empty buckets that we can bail water into by hand.

Bad news: we filled up those buckets, and still it was raining.

Good news: basement can handle up to 4 inches of water (600 gallons) before causing any real damage.

Bad news: we're currently at one inch. The lights are starting to flicker. I don't have a battery backup to keep the sump pumps going.
