"content": "**Interesting to see the child safety activist community vaguely split between “Yay France Go Ban All The Encryptions” vs: “Durov Must Prefer French Prison to Lefortovo”**\n\nIt’s likely going to be more complex than either of these, my money is on a hybrid of interests including the French government attempting to “send a message” that ordinary people are scum and not to be permitted to have robust privacy \u0026 integrity, or even the pretence of it. That the French government enjoys sending such messages was [noted by noneother than child safety activist John Carr:](https://johncarr.blog/2024/08/26/those-french-police-are-at-it-again/ )\n\n\u003e **So what did the French police do?**\u003e They drove several trucks up to the offices of two ISPs, went in, unplugged every server, carted them off then arrested everyone they could lay their hands on.
