In a minor act of independence, I updated my gmail settings to make ALL emails available via imap, not just the most recent ten thousand. I want local copies on my own hard drive that I can back up myself, that I can still access if they block my account for some reason, and that I can import into a new account on some other service if I perhaps feel like doing that one day.
That was Friday. Thunderbird is about a third of the way importing messages.
