Ok, figured it out this morning. There was nothing wrong with the new implementation, I was not triggering the IKEA blinds re-pairing properly...
After I got all my Zigbee devices re-added (thankfully it's only 9 on this remote), the #HomeAssistant integration was not working.
Turns out I had configured zigbee2mqtt to talk to Mosquitto on the HA host directly, and I had set up user/pass. I have made notes of this in my Obsidian notes.
