Electing a politician tends to reinforce his political wing. Each time Trump has been elected, the far right has gotten stronger.
Even a tone deaf president can be helpful giving time to better candidates to grow.
The way things are, I fear most of the future good leaders in US left are not growing at all.
Voting is not about finding the perfect candidate (you will never find it). It's more like designing better crops: you cut the worse, and grow the better, in order to slowly get better politicians.
Otherwise, it is a fool's errand.
