Indeed. This is a real thing. People in UT might be more insulated from it, but that's pretty much how a lot of Christian organizations think.
(I have lived both in UT and the Bible Belt states, and worked for an evangelical preacher once upon a time as a secretary - he delighted in attacking the LDS).
