Unfortunately the Catholic Church also destroyed and persecuted Christianity since the time of the King James translators. They kept the people in bondage via the corrupted Latin text, and that was broken when Erasmus, in 1516, restored the true Greek text of Antioch.
That was the silver bullet that killed the Roman Catholic Church, and for nearly a century, the Jesuit order persecuted men such as William Tyndale and Martin Luther for attempting to translate the Bible into English.
