just received a sextortion correspondence. including streetview from google of where i lived and a spooky message that they are watching me through my webcam.
i've seen these before with clients i consult, but never got one. i feel honored in some ways.
let's break it down.
- streetview was outdated, and the address they pulled was dated by twenty years
- they used my second middle name (i have two) as my first name. i've never used that as a name i would present myself to people as
- webcam? this skid doesn't know how paranoid i am. i own a webcam, but never use it. there's no magical webcam cover needed here
- all of the naughty porn i watch and things i do to myself? right. i haven't watched pr0n since the 90s and i'm an old dude
- they threaten to release all of this naughtiness to my friends and family. well, that would only work if i had friends and family which i have none. they continue on to threaten sending information to my employer. good luck. i don't have one. i am my own employer.
- asking for 700$usd in bitcoin? if i'm going to commit fraud/extortion over international/federal lines i'm going to ask for 7k not 700. amateur hour
- they claim to have installed the pegasus malware on all my devices. is that possible on a hardened linux machine with a tap interface that has onboard ids/ips as a daily driver? i don't have a phone.
- they claim to have access to my bank account, social media accounts, healthcare, etc. at the moment i don't have an active bank account. that should be fun for them.
now comes the time to really think about what to do. email origin was an open relay out of southern europe, email was from gmail and valid but spoofed, and the btc addy is empty.
probably do nothing.
or maybe i can send them a bitcoin transaction in an amount that when broken down to letters spells out `eat bussy fuckboi`
i swear it's time to leave the internet
