Interesting hypothesis but I think you’re way overthinking Trump’s reptilian mind. Donald Trump says whatever he thinks is good for Donald Trump in the current moment. If saying the opposite 5 minutes later seems good for Donald Trump, he’ll say that, without any qualm or hesitancy.
This is a shallow, damaged, amoral, sick man, and people who think they can depend on him for anything are routinely disappointed, if not defrauded or even jailed.
