I just read James again, and to me it's clear that it's main purpose is to provoke people who are already saved, those who are already saved to do good works. In James 2 verse 18 and beyond, I read it as James telling the bretheren that you will be remembered in the eyes of men by your works. Justification before God is by your faith, and justification before men is by your works. Do the works anyway because it's called brotherly love.
